[503] John M. Durben, age 72, of 11013 Cty. Hwy. JJ, Manitowoc, died Friday, September 6, 1996, at his residence.

[504] Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, September 9, 1996, at Knollwood Mausoleum Chapel, Manitowoc. Officiating at the service will be Rev. William Plank with burial to follow at Knollwood Memorial Gardens. (...)

[505] John served with the United States Army during World War II. He fighted at the bridge of Remagen and he was in the first tank, which crossed over the rhine, because he could speek german.

[506] He married Dorothy Helen Biedenbender, June 11, 1949, at St. Augustine Church, Chilton, WI. John was employed with the Weyerhauser Company for 35 years, retiring in 1987. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.

[507] Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, Manitowoc; two sons and daughters-inlaw, John E. and Mona Durben, Green Bay, Eugene L. and Debra Durben Branch; two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan M. and John Jacquart, Sheboygan, Julie A. and John Gadzinski,
Manitowoc; four grandchildren, Tracy (Corey) Hucek, Melissa and Brett Durben, Cody Gadzinski; one great granddaughter, Miranda Hucek; further survived by brothers and sisters; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by
one grandson, Cory Durben and sisters. (...) The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, assisted the family with funeral arrangements.

[510] John diente während des 2. Weltkrieg in der US-Armee. Er kämpfte an der Brücke von Remagen und er war im ersten Panzer, der die Brücke überquerte, weil er Deutsch sprecen konnte.

[511] Er heiratete Dorothy Helen Biedenbinder am 11. Juni 1949 in der St. Augustine Kirche in Chilton, WI. John war 35 Jahre Angestellter der Firma Weyerhauser, als er sich 1987 in den Ruhestand zurückzog. Er war ein eifriger Sportler der Gefallen am Jagen,
Fischen und am Zelten gefunden hatte.
